Mathias Mlekuz and Philippe Rebbot for "À bicyclette", and the documentary "Becoming Led Zeppelin" at the cinema.

À bicyclette by Mathias Mlekuz is a film that follows the director and his friend and actor Philippe Rebbot on their bicycle journey from La Rochelle to Istanbul. An itinerary that follows in the footsteps of Mathias Mlekuz's son, Youri, who made this journey before killing himself a year earlier. The film oscillates between laughter and tears, where authenticity and spontaneity are the key words. "At the beginning, I just wanted to make the journey, which I suggested to Philippe ," says Mathias Mlekuz. "Philippe was the one who had the idea for the film, and then we improvised. We had zero preparation." The only guiding principle being the "itinerary given by [the director's son] in his travel journals," the two friends having left without having "done any reconnaissance." "It's a film that was made of accidents," shares Mathias Mlekuz, which meant that "the film was also constructed a little during editing," he explains.

"We didn't hide anything, we showed all our states. Anger, sadness, laughter... We showed just about everything."

For Philippe Rebbot, embarking on this adventure was obvious. "I accepted because I was his friend, because I was there and it was the right thing to do. There was no choice, there was no thinking, I had nothing else to do but accept," he confided to Tout Public. And while the duo goes through all the states in this film, discussion is very present between them, which inspired Philippe Rebbot to invent a new term. "We do a lot of "extrospection". It's something I just invented: we do introspection, but together," jokes the actor.

By Bicycle is available in theaters from February 26, 2025.
